“Las Vegas holds a special place in my heart — it’s like watching a magician reveal a whole new trick,” says Blade Ohman, who has been bartending at the Lost Cactus Bar at Flyover for the past two years.
“From its evolution into a dynamic destination beyond just gambling to the shows and experiences, it’s a whirlwind of excitement. Sure, the heat can be a challenge, but we’re in it together making memories that last a lifetime.”
Ohman was born and raised in Las Vegas and while he was familiar with Flyover he hadn’t experienced it for himself. Then one day his father surprised the family with tickets, and Ohman struck up a conversation with a bartender and inquired about a job opportunity at the Lost Cactus Bar. He was fascinated by the creativity and flair of bartenders he’d witnessed in action along the famous Vegas Strip and he wanted to add his own touch to the profession. Ohman left his contact information and eagerly awaited a callback. Now he’s Flyover’s Food and Beverage Team Lead, crafting cocktails for visitors and sharing in their excitement as they visit the city he calls home.
“I thoroughly enjoy engaging with our guests from the moment they arrive,” says Ohman, whose go-to recommendations, after Flyover include the fountain show at the Bellagio and the Cirque du Soleil performances. “I’m eager to discover what special occasions they’re celebrating or what Las Vegas adventures they’re seeking.”
Of course, Ohman also enjoys whipping up delicious cocktails for guests to accompany these conversations. The Fire and Ice cocktail is one of his favorites to make, which he describes as a “homage to the Icelandic experience” at Flyover. Icelandic Reyka vodka is the backbone of the cocktail, which is created in front of guests and evokes the colors of the Northern Lights — finished with a smoky presentation.
“Witnessing the sheer delight on our guests’ faces when they’re served this exquisite drink is truly the highlight of my day,” he adds.
Ohman has no plans to leave Las Vegas and has a deep affinity for his hometown. Outside of work, Ohman is passionate about “empowering dreamers to pursue their aspirations.” He says it’s disheartening to witness obstacles getting in the way of that and he wants to help others achieve their goals.
“My dream is to establish a foundation that eliminates these hurdles,” he says, adding this will happen through scholarships to remove financial barriers. “Providing individuals the opportunity to pursue their dreams with ease and enthusiasm.”
